Crunch Fitness Debuts Fitness Class Modeled after the Olympics

The opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games kicked off last Friday. As Crunch Fitness members watch the U.S. team go for the Gold in London, they'll have the opportunity to emulate the training routines of their favorite Olympic athletes through Crunch Fitness' Group X class, "The Decathlon."

Modeled after Olympic sports, such as track & field, swimming and gymnastics, each week participants will tackle a different sport in a circuit format, receiving a total-body strength and cardio workout in the process, reports Club Industry magazine.

"At Crunch, we are always looking for new and exciting ways to give our members a fun and unique workout experience," said Donna Cyrus, the senior vice president of programming for Crunch Fitness. "With all the buzz surrounding this year's Olympic games, The Decathlon gives participants a chance to experience the elite training of Olympians through circuit drills, strength exercises and use of premier equipment, such as Indo-Rows and Rebounders, to name a few."

According to Vladimir Bermudez, an instructor at Crunch Fitness, the class appeals to a wide range of members, especially those who typically don't take group fitness classes. "The class has been received amazingly well by Crunch members," said Bermudez. "We've seen a spike of attendance from members who would typically work out by themselves and usually don't take group fitness classes, because of the personalized training feel in a group setting. The competition aspect also allows participants to unleash their inner Olympian and is a great motivational aspect!"
